My mother just forwarded the following to me.   At a cursory glance I think most of it looks good, but I'm looking for more opinions and feeback on the matter.  What do you think?

---------------------------------------------------------------

Start the 28th Amendment!!

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits. 12 years only, one of the possible options below..

A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 10-1-11

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

[livejournal.com profile] theoldone 's latest post referenced this comic strip, and now I find I'm reading thru the whole thing.  If you've ever owned a cat, it's for you.  (There's a couple near the beginning that aren't so great, but it gets much better)

Was having trouble deciding on the icon for this post, but decided a happy kitty beats out a sick teddy bear for optimism.   Took the cats into the vet today as Buster is waay behind on his immunizations and (mainly) because Cuddles suddenly started acting sick (just not herself).  Buster is fine and back home with me. Cuddles, however, is not.  She's under observation at the clinic for a couple of days.   It looks like she *may* have diabetes, and she's dehydrated.  I say *may* because she's also got some sort of raging infection which they say in itself may have caused her glucose levels to skyrocket, so they're keeping her there to get her eating, hydrated, pumped full of antibiotics and to determine if the glucose is the chicken or the egg, as it were.

She is the girls' favorite kitty, so explaining to them that she is that sick will not be fun.  They were very worried about her when I decided to bring her in to the vet today.  Send good kitty vibes, we don't need more catastrophe here.

So... my brain is having a fight with itself.  Y'see the rational bit of it knows this is all rubbish and is fighting with the irrational, though oddly persuasive, bit of it that is trying to squeeze more hours out of the weekend by firmly believing that "if you don't go to bed, tomorrow never comes."  Yes, I know it's baloney, but somehow I just can't convince the rest of my brain of that and now it won't let me get sleepy...Argh.

As some of you may know, my eldest daughter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in fall of 2010, when she was 5.  Sadly, it was undetected (she showed no signs of illness) until it caused a high blood pressure spike which resulted in a stroke just 3 days into her Kindergarten year.  With lots of chemo, physical and occupational therapy, she's doing much better, though she still has a ways to go.

This May, we have a chance to participate in a fundraising walk for CureSearch, and a chance to ensure that all kids affected by cancer can have a chance at a cure.

Emma (and the rest of our family) will be participating in the walk to take place in Portage, MI on May 21st.

We're looking for other people to join our team, assist in fundraising or just to make a donation! While it's fun to have lots of people there to walk with us, if you're too far away, the site allows you to sign up as a virutal walker and make a donation and/or recruit friends to help out too!

Emma's page is at: http://www.curesearchwalk.org/southwestmi/team_emma

and you can join from there.  The team name is "Team Emma" and is listed under the Mattawan Consolidated School group, (though all you really need to know is the team name.)

We really hope you can join us in some way!  Please let your friends and family know!  It's very exciting for Emma to be able to help other kids with cancer and feel that she's doing her part to help ensure that someday there can be a 100% cure rate.

Yeah, if you're not into DDO, you'll probably want to skip this one. )

Other than that, I had to take our youngest one into the hospital this evening as she was running a temp of nearly 103 degrees F.  It's been 2 weeks now that most of the family has been ill, starting with the youngest one having Strep; the eldest (who's undergoing chemo) having metapneumovirus and Influenza B (despite the vaccine -- kinda need white blood cells for that to work and chemo nukes those.)  I think we lucky parents managed to get at least 2 of the 3 (I'm hoping our flu vaccines worked!)  I've been completely zonked, sleeping about 3/4ths of the day, headachy, throat on fire, and fighting the fact that the stomach, intestines, etc, seem to want to go on vacation to the outside world and are seeking to leave thru the most gravitationally-convenient exit.  (Yeah, yeah, TMI, sorry.  But you know me, if you read the blog, you just gotta take your chances with that stuff on occasion :P )

Really?? LJ is adding *games*??  Ugh.  If I wanted this to turn into Facebook, I would have just stayed on Facebook.

Well Emma is 7 today.  She has grown up so fast, and with two of those years being mainly taken up with hospitals, I feel like I've already missed a huge chunk of her childhood.  We have a craft party scheduled for her this Saturday, and she's really looking forward to it.

And speaking of the above 2 items, I've both updated my Facebook page, for those people who still use it, and her CaringBridge page as well, for anyone who follows that.

Chloe is now sick with a barking cough and an ear and headache, so despite the fact I've been up most of the night, I'lll be bringing her in to the doctor's office in just a few hours.  Right now I'm off to bed to catch what little sleep I can.

Getting a bit angsted out over this upcoming 33-state blizzard.  Not sure if I should send the kids out to school or D to work, for that matter.  Tomorrow looks even worse, unless something changes, I'm keeping them all home for sure then.  Crazy weather and then lake effect on top of it.  Fun fun fun.  Wonder if it'll top the Blizzard of '78 or not?
besina_sartor: back view of a girl in an old-fashioned dress walking thru an archway outdoors. Sepia tone. (um)
Why is it that I cannot see what I assume are either embedded video files on lj (or the rest of the internet for that matter)?  When I click properties in the little placeholder box it shows an .aspx extension.  Which checkbox do I need to click and where in order to get this working again?

Thankee so much,
One serioiusly confused Bes

With apologies to Steven Sondheim:
From Star Wars, The Musical: Episode 5, The Empire Strikes Back

Send in the Clones
(yes, yes, I know they’re Storm Troopers but then this filk doesn’t work)

Setting Hoth:

Setting: Darth Vader entering rebel base
Darth Vader: Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air (spoken aside: well, up on that ATAT).
Send in the clones.

Setting: Interior, ATAT walker, which is blasting away at the force shield generator
General Veers: Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move (scene cut: ATAT legs being tangled by snowspeeder harpoon)
Where are the clones?
Send in the clones.

Setting: Rebel base flight bay, Vader watching Millenium Falcon depart
Darth Vader: Just when I'd stopped
Opening doors,
Finally knowing
The one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again
With my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Setting: X-wing, interior
Luke: Don't you love farce?
My fault, I fear.

Setting: Bridge, Millenium Falcon
Leia: I thought that you'd want what I want -

Setting: X-wing, interior
Luke: Sorry, my dear. (spoken aside: R2. We’re going to the Dagobah system.)

Setting: Bridge of Executor. Vader stands facing viewscreen showing asteroid field
Darth Vader: But where are the clones?
There ought to be clones.
Quick, send in the clones. (spoken aside: Asteroids do not concern me, Admiral. I want that ship.)

TIE fighters can be seen flying into the asteroid field in pursuit of Millenium Falcon.

Setting: On board Executor, in Vader’s private quarters, receiving message from Palpatine
Palpatine (spoken): There is a great disturbance in the force

Vader: What a surprise.

Palpatine (spoken): We have a new enemy: Luke Skywalker

Cut to image of Luke Skywalker landing on Dagobah

Vader: Who could foresee
I'd come to feel about you
What you'd felt about me?

Cut back to Vader’s quarters

Vader (spoken): He’s just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.

Palpatine: The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.

Cut to Dagobah scene where Luke is tested facing Vader

Vader: Why only now when I see
That you'd drifted away?
What a surprise.
What a cliché.

Cut back to Vader’s quarters
Vader (spoken): He will join us or die, my Master.

Cut to Bespin, Cloud City, emergency platform, Vader faces Luke in lightsaber duel, Luke has lost his hand as Vader stands over him

Vader: Isn't it rich? Isn't it queer?

Vader (spoken): Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.

Luke (spoken): He told me enough. He told me you killed him!

Vader (spoken): No, I am your father.

Luke screams in denial and as Vader approaches, throws himself down the shaft. Vader stands above, arm outstretched

Vader: Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clones?
Quick, send in the clones.
Don't bother - they're here.

(Fade out to Vader’s voice saying, “Son, come with me…”)

I hate asking, but we're really in a bind with Emma's medical bills, a few people have already sent us some moola, and I'd like to say a very big "THANK YOU!" to them, but we can still use all the help we can get. If you've got a few spare bucks that you could send our way to help cover Emma's expenses, we'd really appreciate it! Just click the donate button below and you can send whatever amount you'd like. Thank you so much! :)

I'm trying to install Paint Shop Pro XI Photo on my laptop (which runs Vista), since that is the device I have with me whenever I'm staying in GR with Emma.   I've been trying to install it thru the Admin account, but it keeps getting halfway thru then giving me the message

"Error 1606. Could not access network location %APPDATA%\. "

and refuses to go any further.  Any idea what it's talking about and how I could fix it?  I am on a home network, but as I'm installing it thru the laptop's DVD drive to the laptop's hard drive, I have no idea how network anything could possibly come into it.

There was a long discussion amongst friends last night before we got the games started about the guy who flew into the IRS building and what exactly he said in his manifesto.   [livejournal.com profile] reynardo posted this link to the original rant plus interpretation, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] czarina69 .

At any rate, I thought it might help with the argument.  I found the interpretation pretty funny.

I got to sleep around 9.  Yay!
At midnight-thirty cat did happy stretch in the bed and inadvertently clawed my back.  Boo!
Can't fall back asleep.
Am installing Paint Shop Pro on the laptop.  Meh?

Not a whole lot of time to post right now, also not a whole lot to post about, other than our 4 day hiatus to Kalamazoo again for Emma's chemo.
So, I'll just leave you with one of my favs from xkcd.  I used to ask those questions, but the tree thing is much better!  :)

Worst, in my book, would definitely be: "Kick Start my Heart" ,because it's an evil earworm and a very ,very, awful  song.  (Which sounds more like someone in cardiac arrest than in love, doesn't it?)
besina_sartor: back view of a girl in an old-fashioned dress walking thru an archway outdoors. Sepia tone. (personal encounter)
It's odd.  Since joining LJ I've made lots of friends online.  I also have lots of friends offline that I've known for a much longer time.  But I've found that those that I know IRL, hence the ones I would expect to actually read the journal more often, are frequently the ones who actually read it the least.

I'm not complaining, I just find it kind of weird.

I know a lot of it has to do with how much you're in to blogging  (or reading blogs) to begin with, so logically, if they're already on LJ, they're more likely than other peeps to read your blog, since that habit is already established.  Most of those folks tend to be online friends for me, whom I've met thru LJ rather than the ones I've already known.

I guess since I'm pretty curious about people and their thoughts and opinions in general, I just find the lack of connection with my more local friends a bit confusing.  Hrm.  Comments anyone? *wanders away to ponder*

Subject: Stop Monsanto's GMO contamination

Dear Friend,

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is on the verge of granting Monsanto permission to market its genetically modified alfalfa, despite findings that show almost certain danger of the spread of modified genetic material to conventional and organic alfalfa crops.

The approval would present a huge threat to organic farmers and the integrity of the organic label. We need to act now to stop the USDA from making a colossal mistake.

The USDA is accepting public comments in the approval process, but only until February 16. Will you submit your comment urging the USDA to consider the impacts on organic farmers in its review of Monsanto's genetically modified crops? Just click here:

http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/monsanto_alfalfa/?r_by=7729-125786-3eMDmsx&rc=paste1

-----------------------------------------

What really pisses me off about Monsanto is that they have a patent on all their GMO crops, and regardless of how it can contaminate the crops of other farmers who don't plant the Monsanto seed, if the gene gets into their crops at all (wind- or insect-bourne pollination, heck, I suppose even deliberate contamination of the farmer's fields by Monsanto itself ), Monsanto can, and does sue these farmers (they do it frequently), and wins. <opinion>  Monsanto are an evil conglomeration and deserve to have their asses kicked </opinion>
