Geek stuff

A nice little essay for 40-something gamers:

and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] theoldone for introducing me to the Scientific Computing website, which I can spend hours getting immersed in.

On a funny note, one has to admire some of the straight-forward language scientists are capable of employing (even as we're used to it being 50 cent, convoluted, or latin run-on words).  For example this wonderful sentence from an article they did on a "vast cloud of glowing gas" which produces its own light.

"A team of astronomers has used ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) to study an unusual object called a Lyman-alpha blob"

Yes, "blob" is an official designation and part of its name, and you can't get much more direct than by naming your Very Large Telescope, well, a Very Large Telescope.   *grin*
